Writer's Block: Who will you be?

What are you going to be for Halloween this year? Are you going to wear coordinating costumes with a friend or partner? Did you buy something pre-fab or make it yourself?

Submitted By [info]crazyprotein

I haven't finished making my gypsy costume this year due to hurting my back. If I don't get it finished I'll have to wear something from my box of costumes. I can be Deloris Umbridge, a Gryffindor student, a member of the Water tribe (Avatar: The Last Airbender), a witch, a sorceress, a medieval-ish peasant, and a working-class woman from the Dickens era.

Writer's Block: Seeing stars

Which character from any film, television show, or book would you most like to take on a date and why?

Submitted By [info]blue_mariposa88

I can't pick just one. The 10th Doctor from Doctor Who, Timothy McGee from NCIS, Richard Castle from Castle, Jim Clancy from Ghost Whisperer, and Patrick Jane from The Mentalist for the television characters. Hoops from One Crazy Summer or Rick O'Connell from The Mummy for film characters. Darian from Mercedes Lackey's Owlflight for book characters or Vetch/Kiron from her Dragon Jouster series.

Mckey Mouse in the House

This was taken all of ten minutes ago. Look at how big he has gotten. He is still on the small side. He had a bath yesterday and his fur is so soft and sleek. He will be getting neutered as soon as I get my next paycheck. He was watching me shake his stuffed penguin when I took the photo.

RIP

British actress Mollie Sugden has passed away at the age of 86. She was best known for her role as Mrs. Slocombe on Are You Being Served?, a BBC comedy about the workers in an upscale London department store. She was a wonderful actress who wasn't afraid of acting silly to get a laugh. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/8129617.stm

Writer's Block: Close Call

Accidents happen all the time, and often we walk away miraculously uninjured. What has been your closest call with avoiding serious harm in an accident?

View 503 Answers

I'd have to say the time when I was five-years-old and decided to run in my grandparent's house. I tripped and fell face-first into the chimney harth. I ended up with a nice scar next to my right eye- a couple of hairs to the left and I would have most likely lost my right eye. I still have nightmares about people holding me down and sewing up the area next to my eye.

Writer's Block: Licensed to Drive

Should we just be handing over the car keys when kids turn 16? Why or why not?

Sponsored by Allstate. Learn more at allstate.com/STANDUP

No, people should only be allowed to drive when they have shown that they can drive safely and are mature about it. I am tired of all the idiots on the road who think they can pull out when there is not enough time/distance to do so, run red lights, speed, and do dangerous stunts like car surfing or ghost riding. They need a big crack down on dumb driving around here. Same thing for idiots on bicycles that don't wear helmets, ride against traffic, and wear dark colored clothing at night. I've also seen several pedestrians that need to have their walking rights taken away- playing Frogger with oncoming traffic, walking down the middle of the road and refusing to move to the side, and again, dark clothes at night.

Writer's Block: Philanthropy

Do you volunteer your time or donate money to any charitable organizations? Which ones, and why?

View 500 Answers

I volunteer with Girl Scouts, though this will be my last year. They keep changing the programs, making things more expensive, and I an starting to hate the other people that volunteer there. Juliet is turning in her grave because they are making a mockery of her ideas.

As soon as my financial issues get sorted, I'm donating to PBS because they need the money and I watch several of the shows they air.

If I won a large amount from the Powerball, I'd move, travel, start several businesses, donate some to charity, get the BBC to do a spin-off of Doctor Who with David Tennant and Billie Piper, and save the rest.

Writer's Block: Fearsome

The boogeyman, global thermonuclear war, being forced to eat broccoli—there's a lot to be afraid of when you're a kid. What was your biggest childhood fear?

A skeleton in the storage shed in the backyard.
I kept dreaming of a talking skeleton in the storage shed. He kept offering me a lolly-pop. I told my Dad and he went out there. Dad took the lolly and ate it. Then he died and turned into a skeleton.

Writer's Block: Year of the Ox

Happy Chinese New Year! The Year of the Ox starts today. What is your Chinese zodiac animal? Do you think you fit the description of the sign?

View 500 Answers

I am a Fire Rabbit. I fit most of the descriptions, in bold.

Occupying the 4th position in the Chinese Zodiac, the Rabbit symbolizes such character traits as creativity, compassion, and sensitivity. Rabbits are friendly, outgoing and prefer the company of others. They also prefer to avoid conflict. In confrontational situations, Rabbits approach calmly and with consideration for the other party. Rabbits believe strongly in friends and family and lacking such bonds can lead to emotional issues.

Their serene nature keeps Rabbits from becoming visibly upset. Because they’re serene animals, Rabbits are easily taken advantage of. Their sensitive nature makes them shy away from aggressive or competitive situations. They’re overall conservative and not interested in taking risks.

Classy, sophisticated, expressive, well-mannered and stylish, those born under the Sign of the Rabbit enjoy leaning about cultural issues and learning about people from other countries. Rabbits are most comfortable being home, and their homes are always neat and organized. Home is also where Rabbits prefer to entertain. Rabbits are conservative in their decorating tastes.

Even though Rabbits don’t usually get visibly upset or stressed, they do tend to keep these feelings inside. When they don’t express these feelings, such feeling can cause Rabbits to become ill. Rabbits could benefit from more everyday activity which would reduce their stress levels and better their health.

Rabbits are articulate and good communicators which is why friends and acquaintances seek out their advice. It’s also why Rabbits make excellent diplomats and politicians. Other good careers for Rabbits include: writer, publisher, actor, fashion designer, therapist, doctor, administrator, public relations, and teacher.

Fire adds spark to the Rabbit’s personality and all that Fire Rabbits do. Fire compels Rabbits to seek new adventures. Prone to tantrums, Fire Rabbits prefer to avoid conflict.
